Writing Short Content

The one sentence answer engines lift from every item.

Short Content is the single most important AEO field on your site. It is the one-sentence summary emitted as each item's description in your site's JSON-LD -- the sentence an AI assistant reads, and can quote, in isolation.

Rules for a strong Short Content sentence:

  • One complete sentence, not a fragment and not a paragraph.
  • 128 characters or fewer; the field enforces this limit.
  • Standalone: no pronouns that depend on another sentence. 'It also handles invoicing' fails; 'Acme Books handles bookkeeping and invoicing for restaurants in Pune' works.
  • Factual and specific: name the entity and say what is true about it.
  • Lead with the subject, not with 'We'.

Where to write it:

  1. Sites > AEO, select the item, fill the Short Content field. The Preview panel updates when you save.
  2. Or Sites > Content, select the item -- the same field appears in the form.

If Short Content is empty, the item emits no structured data at all. The AEO sidebar marks it, the Roles page shows 'No content' in red, and the preview panel says exactly that. Write the sentence and the item joins your site's graph.
